Fire in Sofia, Bulgaria
November 2006
Waking up on Sunday morning, I popped my head out of the window and noticed some excitement in the building site next door.
It turns out the builders hut was on fire. As the ran around saving there gear, it wasnt long before the Bulgarian fire brigade arrived on the scene.
While not a huge fire, it was quite dramatic to watch as the Bulgarian fireman took control and doused the flames.
As they realized that attempts to douse the fire with buckets of water were futile the Bulgarian fire brigade arrived in their blue fire engines.
The first attack quickly put the flames down and starts huge billowing clouds of smoke and steam.
As the flames die down a liitle one fireman gets in a bit closer.
A policeman decides that the danger is over and wants to take a look, which didnt please one of the fireman too much.
The flames can rise up again quickly. One of the firemen enters the hut and douses the sheater that started the fire.
It looked like the fire started with the wood burning heater getting out of control. The builders ran in and out of the hut recueing their gear
Once the wind got into the hut the fire flared up uncontrollably in a matter of minutes
The firemen quickly set up hoses and start to attack the fire from a distance.
Though the flames apear to have been tamed its still pretty hot inside. A little wind and its clear that an instant inferno would blow up in seconds.
Two fireman one with breathing gear manage to get in amongst the smoke and put the the flames for a moment.
It's pretty much all now. The firemen spray down the hut. Drama over.
