Mexico

San Miguel De Allende

I moved to Mexico City in January 2003, and as a result there are many pages on this site about places I have visited in Mexico. I get a lot of visitors pass by looking for things Mexican and so this incredibly diverse and fascinating country gets to have its very own index!.

As I plan to stay here for the forseeable future, this page and the pages it indexes will continue to grow. If you have an interest in Mexico maybe you should consider bookmarking this page.

Archeological Sites in Mexico...

Mexico is a country with a rich historical heritage. While the pyramids are not as old or as grand as the those of Egypt, they still remain stunningly impressive. The sites themselves are all manged with different levels of access to the buildings. The most popular sites such as Chichen Itza, near the holiday mecca of Cancun, are nowadays heavily protected from the tennis shoes of American tourists, and quite rightly so. Other sites still allow a fairly unlimited access which I am sure INAH will address over time.

The links below can be used to navigate to the pages on this site that attempt to give a taste of these 'must see' archeological attractions..

Towns, Cities and Generally Interesting Places

The collection of links below, gives a good idea of the diversity of Mexico outside of archeological sites and diving.

Cave, Cavern and Cenote Diving in Mexico...

I can't imagine anywhere else in the world that can offer such a variety of overhead diving than Mexico, and in particular the cenotes around Puerto Aventuras. It really is the best in the world, with something for everyone. Beginner divers can enjoy the open water cenote basins, while more advanced open water divers can experience overhead diving, by being guided by cave divers in specially designated 'safe' caverns'. Experienced cave divers have everything available to them with even the possibility of exploration of virgin cave systems.

Scuba Diving in Mexico...

I use the term Scuba diving to seperate recreational open water scuba diving from the technical and cave diving content on this site. Drift diving in places such as Cozumel is already well known, but the real gems for me lie in the high altitude diving of sites such as Lake Alchichica in Puebla State.
