Diving La Media Luna - Nov 2003

Any Mexican diver knows of La Media Luna in the state of San Luis Potosi. I had heard that it could get busy, but the reality was unbelievable. OK it was a public holiday but the camping reminded me of my teens at rock festivals!

Eventually, thanks entirely to Jorge and Mariana, we found a quiet corner away from the crowds and could enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Beautiful canals intersect the site.

7 am. Already many divers are trying to beat the crowds to get 100 foot visibility. After the first dive of the day viz drops to about 5 feet!

A long way from the dive site but at least the campsite was nice and peaceful.

I'm glad we dived Media Luna , but the crowds were really too much for me. Its a great site but really can't handle the numbers. Maybe a mid week trip next time.

Road to La Media Luna. Hot and dusty.

Morning mist rising from the canals.

Media Luna has two main spring fed basins and a small cavern. The larger basin has a depth of slightly more than 100 feet.

One of the very large ants that can be found on the site. I accidently pitched my tent on this guys home.

Wild Flowers on the campsite.
