Toluca, Mexico - January 2003

Toluca is a provincial town not too far beyond the sprawling mass of perhaps 25 million people that is Mexico City.

Famous for its connections to the automotive industry, the town is peaceful while still lively. Toluca, while not exactly a tourist 'must see' is still well worth the effort of a visit, especially the Cosmovitral, at the Jardin Botanico, a truely beautiful work of art in glass.

Ceiling of the botanical gardens, begging to be photographed.

The seriously impressive building of the botanical gardens, located downtown on a large plaza below the state Congress and the Cathedral.

There are 48 stained glass panels encompassing the botanical gardens. One end represents fire fading to the other end which seemed to represent ice.

Sunlight shining  through this pane of stained glass cannot fail to impress.

A church close to the center of Toluca. At some time in the future, I will make an attempt to find out it's name.

Erik, Marie-Claire and Bolke politely pose for a picture at the "bluer" end of the Cosmovitral-Jardin Botanico.

I revisited Toluca and the Cosmovitral at the Jardin Botanico in 2005 and took a few more pictures of this spectacular artwork and the surrounding town.
