Tulum Ruins, Riviera Maya - June 2004

Tulum was built around AD 1200 as the Mayan civilisation declined. It really is stunningly impressive and it is very difficult for photographs to do its beauty justice.

Coconut palms, the turquoise shades of the Carribean and Mayan history just can't be beaten. Of all the pre hispanic sites in Latin America I think this is my favourite.

Tulum attracts a lot of tourists on excursions from Playa del Carmen and Cancun. Where else would you get such an impressive archeological site next to such a beautiful beach?

Liliana , El Castillo and my Mother (looking a little confused as to why I'm screaming not to move !)

This is me wandering around the rocks trying to get a different angle on the site

Here I am with some of the less photograhed and not so famous parts of the site behind me.

Liliana and my Dad.

The cornerstone here is very interesting and if you look closely you can see that it is fact a Mayan head.

The site was hot. Very hot! Next time I visit, It will be earlier in the morning!
