Revolution Day,

Poblado Puerto Aventuras, Nov 2005

November 20th celebrates the Revolution Day in México. Kids all over México, celebrate this day.

The kids of the Primary School of the Poblado the Puerto Aventuras, did this typical Mexican parade.

The opening of the parade.

The little ones are showing us the typical dresses that were use at the Revolution time.

The bigger ones are showing different skills learnt at their gym classes.

This year the parade was smaller than usual. Some other years the students of the Primary School worked together with the Kinder garden and the Telesecundaria one.

Telesecundaria is a special program that México has in order to teach High school all over the country, without the need of several teachers. The students learn through TV programs, specially recorded for this purpose.

After the ceremony, several games were played, meanwhile the parents enjoyed the "antojitos", bite size Mexican appetizers, that were sold to gather founds for the school.

The "Escolta Team", the students who achieved the highest marks at the Poblado Primary School.

Look at these proud faces. This is one of the activities that helps the kids become proud of their Mexican identity.

The kids with their soccer balls. Soccer is one of the preferred games in the area, and one at which they excel.

This picture leaves no doubt about their gymnastics skills.

After the parade, the students held a ceremony to commemorate the Day of the Revolution.

The parents of the kids work together with the teachers and government to make having a school possible. Only a few days before the parents were fixing the school roof, after the damage caused by the storms.

About the pictures in this page

All the pictures in this page were taken by Viridiana Gonzalez. Viridiana is a student at the Telesecundaria of Puerto Aventuras and at the Educentro, were she is part of the program "Eventos del Poblado", a program that generates a weekly newsletter about the events in the community.

This program was created with two objectives. The main one is to help to create a spirit of community in the village. The second, and equally important, is to give the kids in the Telesecundaria the opportunity to learn about digital photography, edition and writing.

'Eventos del Poblado' would not be possible if it wasn't for F.O.P.A. (Friends of Puerto Aventuras) and Educentro. F.O.P.A donated all the materials (digital camera, color printer, photo quality paper, cartridges and batteries) and Educentro host us every Saturday in their multimedia classroom.

You can visit the Educentro page to learn more about the work being done in the Poblado of Puerto Aventuras and to learn how you can contribute to the development of this and other so much needed programs.
